Joel’s Letter To Tommy
In the opening, one of the players saw a letter from Joel’s younger brother Tommy in his house. The letter looks like it was written when the boys were young. Tommy wrote it from a summer camp. Tommy says in the letter that he misses his bigger brother and can’t wait to see him again.
Even though the letter’s contents aren’t very interesting, it shows players a softer side of Joel and Tommy’s often-tense relationship.
Joel’s Age
Early in the game, Joel and Tess try to get through a security stop. Because the images in the new version are better, players can now see the IDs they use at the gate. One player who was paying attention noticed that these papers tell us new things about Joel.
Joel was born in 1981, according to these papers. This means that he was 52 years old during the first game and 56 years old during the second. Since Joel’s exact age was never shown in the first game, this information solves a question that players may have had since 2013.
Seth’s Appearance At The Dam
The fact that a known face is in the remake is one of the most interesting changes. Seth can be seen watching the gate when Joel and Ellie go to the hydroelectric dam to look for Tommy. Players of the second game will remember that Ellie and Seth have a fight in Jackson after he says something racist about her kiss with Dina.
Since these scenes are the first time Joel and Ellie see the town of Jackson, which will become their home, it makes sense to include a character from the next game at this point.
Outfits From The Last Of Us Part 2
In the version, Joel and Ellie can have a huge number of different looks. Most of the outfits are fun references to other PlayStation games, but you may recognize some of the others for other reasons. The players can wear the clothes that Joel and Ellie wore in The Last of Us Part 2.
Even though this is a tiny thing, Ellie’s Seattle outfit has become a symbol of her character, so adding it to the first game is a good idea.
Tess’ Backstory
In the first game, not much is known about Tess, Joel’s partner in crime, but in the remake, players learn more about her past. A sharp-eyed Reddit user noticed that there are graphics in Slope Game that show Tess’ full name, birth date, and place of birth.
Tess’s full name is Theresa Servopoulos, and her birthday is February 26, 1982, according to the textures. They also say that she was born in Rockford, Illinois. Tess is probably one of the most important characters in the first game, so it’s interesting that players finally get to find out more about her.
Characters Now Respond To Light Sources More Naturally
Some players may have noticed that the characters’ reactions to light are now much more accurate than they were in the first game. If the player shines a torch at the figures, they often squint or cover their eyes. In the first game, some of the characters briefly reacted to light, but in the remake, the responses are much stronger and more realistic.
This element was also in the sequel, which is interesting. Adding it to the remake makes The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2 more alike. Even though this is a small change, it makes the game feel much more real and complicated.
Multiple References To Mortal Kombat
There are many nods to the Mortal Kombat games in the remake. The first is a skin for Ellie with a theme, and the second is a sign for Mortal Kombat 2 on Ellie’s wall in the Left Behind DLC. These references are a clear nod to the TV show, in which Ellie and Riley play Mortal Kombat 2 at Raja’s Arcade.
In the games, Ellie and Riley try to play The Turning instead, which is based on the Mortal Kombat series in a not-so-subtle way. Neil Druckmann said on HBO’s The Last of Us Podcast that this was because of licensing and that The Turning was, in fact, based on Mortal Kombat 2. So, this element could also be seen as a reference to the story he had in mind at first.
The First Part of The Last of Us is now out for PC and PS5.
